Red Piggy Press, LLC, a children’s book app publisher, announced today that their first book app project for iPad launched on Kickstarter, a crowd funding platform: http://www.redpiggypress.com/allfixedup.

Red Piggy Press’ first book app is for kids of parents who travel a lot, including those who serve in the military, commercial pilots, speakers, salespeople, and others.

“This book was created to honor parents who must miss out on time with their kids in order to support them; and to help their children better deal with their absence,” says Shelly Bowen, CEO and founder of Red Piggy Press. Bowen’s own father, grandfather, and other members of her family served in the military for more than 50 years, collectively, and the father of her business partner, Tracy Hopcus Jordan, was a commercial pilot.

According to Bowen, the book app can be personalized, customized, and shared with a loved one who’s far away, even if they don’t have the app. “It’s very important to us that the reader is in control of elements of the story that make it a closer connection to their own experience,” says Bowen, “and they’re able to proudly share their creation.”

Shelly Bowen is also the founder and principal of Pybop, LLC, a content strategy consultancy. Red Piggy Press sprang from a digital content strategy and children’s book editing foundation. Bowen started her career as a children’s book editor at Harcourt Brace.

“Red Piggy Press began as a passion project and testing ground for mobile content strategy ideas, but quickly developed a life of its own. I realized that many of the early interactive book publishers are focused on technology first then apply the story, where I feel it should be the other way around. What can technology do for the story? For the child’s learning process? Every interaction should have a purpose.”

Illustrated by award-winning illustrator Sara Jane Franklin and peer-reviewed by 25-year elementary school educators, the book app helps kids explore, discover, and anticipate what’s next -- all critical problem-solving skills. Because smartphone and tablet development is still very expensive, and Red Piggy Press is testing new ground in children’s book publishing, Kickstarter is the perfect proof of concept playground.

“Kickstarter will not only help us raise seed money, it’s also going to help us gather a group of passionate people -- parents, educators, and technology professionals -- and give them a chance to help us develop the story. We’ll provide them access to behind-the-scenes development and get their feedback,” says Jordan.

The project launches on Kickstarter on July 11, 2012 and runs for 30 days. Learn more at http://www.redpiggypress.com/allfixedup.
